The young queen Boudicca by crayonmaniac The young queen Boudicca by crayonmaniac
Dear Alan :iconnikon-aj: , may I present you my young queen Boudicca.
The war with the Romans is still in the future but one can already see that this girl will become a woman to reckon with.

I hope you like her.
My model is the most beautiful Candice Swanepoel, google her and you will find the reference easily.

The unpractical bra is my own creation (so much fun) the girdle should be leather but it turned out something else but it is all my own.
Just the bellybutton tattoo was copied from internet (if one googles celtic tattoos one find it easily) I copied it scrupulously and it took some time. Those tattoos are quite a learning process, I found out that making them realistic is difficult so I first paint them in a lower opacity and then in a higher opacity over the first painting.

I could have painted crowns, torcs, bracelets and pendants and I was tempted but in the end I wanted her natural beauty to be the only adornment.

This painting took me over 20 hours in hard work and detailing but I find her my best achievement till now.

Thanks to all my friends who support me and help me and follow my art. I hope you'll take her into your hearts and your favourite folders (lol) like the other works. That will keep me getting better and better in 2010.

I'm glad you wrote this. People need to be reminded how much effort goes into these works. You add research and sketches, and these become a nothing short of a labor of love.

Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing this.

Boudicca was quite a fighter and led such a revolt against the Romans around early London, she was the inspiration of the popular character of Red Sonja by Robert E. Howard (another Texas boy LOL)

My mouth just dropped open when I first saw this picture so so beautiful. Boudicca is a very well known person in British History and there have been countless attempts at accurately estimating what she might have looked like but there really is something to be said about creating a likeness that she appears in the minds of those who have learnt about because they will all be different.
Yours is truely beautiful and I love seeing a different take on Boudicca's appearence.

well it is only a fantasy, I have received so many bad comments because she is of course a warrior, a woman who has suffered but I know that and chose to paint her in her early year, at a young age, still unspoiled before all the drama happens
thanks for all your nice comments and all the favs for my favorite pixel children, thanks so much, the support is always appreciated, I am a very unsure artist because I have so much to learn and so many others out there are way better than I am

I was truely blown away by the art it is very very impressive, I dont think you have much to be unsure of art wise from what Ive seen.
Theres a lot of traditionalist in terms of art concerning historicalfigures which is why some object to different takes on appearence, which in my opinion is a bit short sighted as its not like anyone really knows what someone who lived near two thousand years looked like, a bit of artist licence should be considered a good thing :)
I think your picture of Boudicca is very refreshing, its lovely to see someone trying something new. I completely agree with the take you have taken with it being before the known events of her life, it is clear to see in the image she is younger than the events that history has described.
With this picture you could take some many different things from which is what makes it impressive, it could be a representation of who her people saw her "beautified" because of the way they felt about her, it could be an image of the beauty with in or soul, or simply what she looked like before life came along with its pressures and demands. So many ways to look at it, which is why its excellent.
Personally I see it as kind of what her people would think of her because they did love her, they must have for them to follow her right. Pretty sure if they had had artists in her people who could draw and paint like that, they would have made her beautiful.
Thats what I think anyway.
I would ignore any bad comments you've got, I commend you for trying something different. Its a gorgeous picture of a much loved figure of histroy. Very well done :)

I have idolised Boudicca since I first read about her in grade 3....a few years ago :D I love this interrpretation and believe being an artist is all about original concepts and creativity. This is not an historically accurate interpretation but I am sure that was not your intention. I like historical figures with a modern twist and do not find it insulting just creative.:winner::clap:

I know, I know, so many have told me so and I agree that the title is rather badly chosen but it stays that way and thanks for understanding

The title is the personal perogative of the artist who creates the artwork....one of the perks :)
Being understanding is one of my few accomplishments and you are very welcome.

I know, you are not the first to tell me this but I had my own private reason for calling this one Boudicca.
I am normally an accurate history user, my passion is the romans so I do know but I took artistic liberty

As an art piece, it is really beautiful.

As a representation of Boudica, it's insulting.
