Litany of an artist by crayonmaniac Litany of an artist by crayonmaniac
Replace painting by drawing, writing, photography, manipulation and I am sure you'll all know what I mean.

I dedicate this to all my friends and watchers because I know this applies to most of you.

I also want to dedicate this to two great artists who will surely understand most of it (for them we can leave out the bad painting lol, that applies only to me) : :iconnathie: and Maria William :iconsijeney:

Love from the crayon to all artists out there

A friend of mine suggested :

Sometimes people tell me not to paint but I paint nonetheless

If you have other great lines to add, tell me and I will add them so this make this complete. Thanks

The pain of art as mother of the life pain,to give such a short life a long deep art, what a riddle, what a endless large frozen mountain, never to climbing for a little helpless human, and you fall as a snow floke on this frozen mountain peak, you silver girl.

So true, so true! I started doing my manips here 2 years ago in a futile attempt to exorcise these images that were always rolling around in my head, consuming my thoughts... I would see a pic of a model and think "That's not right - she's supposed to be a mermaid" or an elf or whatever - and until I created that image, it would stick with me, haunt me almost.

But it's a well with no bottom, for no sooner had one image been finished when the next would surface in my head, and when that one was finished, another, and another... It's endless!

I go through dry periods when I think that maybe - finally - I have exhausted my Muse and I can get on with other things (and perhaps many of my watchers wish that was the case - lol!), but I am restless when I'm not creating something. Something in me feels like it's suffocating if I don't find some way to create something - be it another manip or a sketch or a bit of a story or a painting or even a well-composed letter to someone... SOMETHING!

Is it a self-destructive obsession or addiction that drives us onward? Is it narcissism and the need for the approval of others? Is it an echo of a Divine Creator who first created us in that same image, with an inherent NEED to create? I dunno - everyone will have their own explanations for it. But regardless, it is a very real force, and once Pandora's box has been opened, it seems impossible to ever close it again, regardless of whatever else we end up sacrificing for it.

Muses...sheesh! :ohmygod:

I knew this lady would understand
Anyway, it is definitely not narcicism with me because I have always be drawing and writing without showing stuff to anyone, so I can sustain myself doing it entirely for my own.
For me it remains thing to share and to have those people see with what I come up with.
I like their encouragement a lot, I learn so much from it but basically my art is not a social occupation, it is stricktly between me and my wacom and the great friends I acquired lately are a bonus.
Soar troats need lots of tea but no time to get it, what a pity.

:pat: Take a tablespoon of vinegar 3 times a day... Sounds nasty, but it will kill off the bacteria in your throat and speed up the healing process... And wait a few minutes before washing it all down with your tea, so you don't lose out on the benefits :)

No, it is definitely NOT narcissism with you, my dear - this I know! But there is also a side of you that is reluctant to admit that you are GOOD at what you do - far better than you give yourself credit for! We have YET to see anything here that truly sucks, Crayon - not from you! So be careful that your self-abasement does not turn into a false humilty... your watchers are not simple, and many know good art from bad art, in spite of the subjective nature of "art appreciation" - lol! We are all learning, we can all improve, but it's okay to know that you are good at what you do - no one will think less of you for it ;)

I will try not to be falsely humble sweetie and yes I suppose some things are rather nicely painted by me, eyes, on that everybody agrees!
I will therefore the painter who knows she can paint great eyes, be proud about it, and stop whining about all the rest I cannot paint.
Jeez, madam, you are so stern with me, your poor little sugar smacks from freezing cold belgium.
You will have to give me a big hug to make me feel better after all this scolding (puppy face)

I think that can be arranged, my sweetest of friends with the adorable puppy eyes :tears: And it was not meant to be a scolding, for I do not believe that you ARE falsly humble... it was merely intended to make you aware that it can go that direction if we are not careful (I am just as guilty of it, love, so do not feel chastised... yet ;)) You are still and ever shall be my sugary smacks there in freezing cold Belgium, while I sit here and freeze in the U.S. *shiver*
:iconbackhug: Yes, yes - I shall tenderly lift your spirits again - fear not!

Da vinci put up with corpse's smell to draw corpse's veins and arm. So he could learn much information about human anatomy. These words remember me that. So you caught a very important point for proffesional artists. There are many artists painting without tablet and doing wonderful works. So hope much people will saw these words :) Art is a choice and hardworking. Talent is effects %10

Painting fishing boats, in a remote Greek harbor, some 9 yrs ago.
A toddler with his fisherman grandpa walks by...
"What's he doing ';pa ?"
"Painting a boat Nikos" (looking over my shoulder)
"NO PA !!"
"Why Nikos?"
"He's making his own SHIP"
(Just lit the old pipe and started applying finishing lines.
Some feeling of accomplishment)
-------------
Keep it up

Sometimes I really wish I could be happy with just sitting there watching dull TV like alot of people are doing - go to work from 7 to 4, go home, make dinner, watching TV, clean the house/flat on the weekend, go Saturdays to a party and ... that´s their life. I have tried to live like that, I couldn´t stand it for long, my life was empty. My dad understands me, he is a painter himself, he does gorgeous landscapes and portraits. My mom always said "I alone in a house with two artists - help me! They´re crazy!" :) My dad tried hard to convince me that I got a good education and would not end up as a freelancer artist like himself, but he said recently: "So nothing helped to get you a good job - I knew this urge was stronger, I knew you had to paint." He is collecting proudly everything with my artwork on it, and recently he said: "Shit, you have become better than me. That irks me. Give me your old wacom." (He´s 82 years old and paints now digital too.) LOL

I can SO relate on this!!!! Yeah, painting keeps an artist sane. (The same applies of course to other arts, like Music or writing and so on.)
I have asked myself so often why I paint, and why I often sacrifice my social life and friendships and prefer painting instead. I don´t know.
This is perfect as it is, but if I find more sentences that fits I´ll let you know!

Thanks for the honnesty!
Finally your audience gets a wrong idea of the great painters, because when a new gorgeous piece comes out, we only see the incredible results and not what went wrong, or got killed in the process!
So my little litany was true to the last detail then lol ;-)
I think we understand eachother, nathie, you are really a fine human being, I see that in so many thinks, how you cared about tammie, how you can see the relativity of things, how you are not in the least boasting about your own great art, how you care for people but how you can put bounderies and take care of yourself too.
You have both feet on the ground and produce great art with your wings in heaven, not many of us can do that, they either choose to be the dreamers or the realists but you can combine both, it is not always easy I guess, but you do it nonetheless and that is why I admire you.
(yes yes I know, this looks like sucking up to you, but believe me, it isn't, it is what I see)
Bye, the crayon

Oh believe me everyone produces shit. I do that often, and the good thing is only I can look on the files on my HD, and I decide what I upload to the world and what not. Alot is being deleted, and I am hardly satisfied and I have still so much to learn. :)
Thank you so much for your compliment. My parents taught me to have both feet on the ground. And, I don´t really the the "I am a better artist than you" attitude that goes around DA. For example: I know that people often don´t reply to comments, and I know it takes alot of time to say thank you or answer questions, and I know myself that time matters sometimes. But if artists here just upload and don´t interact with others that is not my cup of tea. :)
